From the East --Personal Message from Worshipful Master Mort B. Larsen (continued on page 2)
My Brothers,
This issue of the Lakeside Crier marks my last hurrah and message to you for this Masonic year. It has been my honor and privilege to serve as your Worshipful Master, and I call upon all the brothers to serve and support those who follow me in the East.
Before stepping down as Master of Lakeside Lodge, I would like to take a moment to thank all the brethren for helping to make my year a pleasant and rewarding one. In particular, I want to thank all my officers for the cooperation that they have given me throughout this Masonic year. Without a competent line of officers no Master can justly govern his lodge. In this regard I have been very fortunate to have had such a fine group to call upon.
Now that summer is over and the darkness turns back into light, I welcome all of you back to lodge so that we may resume our labors and “behold how good and pleasant it is for the brethren to dwell together in unity” once again. I hope each and every one of you had a pleasant and enjoyable summer and were able to participate in at least one of the following activities that we enjoyed together as Masons and brothers this summer. In July we held our annual picnic at the Nile Shrine Center; the event was well attended by 70 people from our Masonic family. A good time was had by all, enjoying food, fun, and fellowship. August ushered in our first Masonic “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” event at Safeco Field. It was lots of fun from a social standpoint

but probably not much fun from the viewpoint of the Mariners and their loyal fans. After all, the Mariners lost to the L.A. Angels 9 to 1.
With the resumption of labor at the September stated meeting we celebrated our return with the annual BBQ Dinner and the official visit of the Grand Master MWB Al Jorgensen. At this meeting we also elected Brothers Dominic Vogt and Glen Houghton to plural membership. Congratulations and welcome, Brothers Dominic and Glen. We are currently investigating two more petitioners for membership in our lodge and hope to ballot on them at the October stated meeting. September concluded with a visitation to Tsawwassen Lodge #185 in Delta, B.C., on the 24th to take part in their installation of officers, followed on the 26th with Lakeside’s conferral of the Entered Apprentice Degree on one poor blind candidate desiring Light in Masonry. Special thanks to all the brothers who participated for their fine performance.
In conclusion, as I reflect upon my year as Master, I see a resurgence in our lodge in terms of petitions, degree work, and changes which have been met with fervency and zeal. I will always cherish the many friendships that I have developed during my advance through the chairs and during my term as Master. They have provided me with some of the richest experiences of my Masonic life. We have a brilliant future ahead of us, my brothers, and I will continue to support the lodge in every way that I can. Until we meet again, thank you for allowing me to be your Master.
Fraternally, Mort B. Larsen, Worshipful Master |

From the West — Personal Message from Senior Warden A. Scott Anderson
Thoughts for the New Year
What do I want from my lodge? What do I want for my lodge? These are important questions. I have provided myself with answers but not necessarily concrete solutions for lodge purposes. To be valid for you and for the entire brotherhood, the solutions need take into account what you want from your Masonic experience. They need to comprehend why you joined the fraternity, and they need to provide the framework for meeting your expectations. As we approach the new |
Masonic year, consider the proposition and collect your thoughts. Please share your ideas and your aspirations with me for the fraternal support that you can bring to the membership and its purposes and for the satisfaction that you hope to derive from your participation in the lodge and its activities. We are fraternal partners by inclination and by choice; we have the power to make the up-coming year’s endeavors a full and rewarding experience.
Fraternally yours, Scott Anderson, Senior Warden

Secretary’s Swan Song
This is the final column I will prepare as your lodge secretary. I would like to thank all Lakeside members for providing me the opportunity to serve in this elective position for the past four years. The cooperation and support you have given has been outstanding and is much appreciated. The large majority has faithfully responded to the annual dues notices promptly and many 50 year and life members, who are not required to pay dues, sent voluntary contributions each and every year. The few who sometimes misplaced the dues notice cheerfully |
sent their dues following a gentle reminder. Also important is the fact that those who relocated to a new address, provided an update which has enabled the lodge to keep track of its members. A special thanks to WB Jack Berg and WB Al Doe who are the lodge treasurers with whom I worked with very closely. Again, thank you all. I trust that you will support my successor in a similar manner.
Fraternally, Charles Johnson, Sr., PM
